Mein Jahr in Mannheim war mehr als ein Studium, es war eine Lebenserfahrung.
Rebeccah Dawson (Carrboro)
First of all, I would like to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to stay in the guest house at University of Mannheim. Currently, I am studying Masters of Science in Economics and on my way to finish the first semester. I did my Bachelors in Economics at East West University, Bangladesh with major in both Economics and Finance. Although, I started my studies as a Business student, but now I consider myself as an aspiring student of Economics interested in research and subsequently in academia. I believe, the reason is, as a subject, Economics has always been motivation to me for its powerful way of understanding people and their interactions. It always fascinated me how it answers some very complex but important questions regarding efficiency, equity and development.
University of Mannheim is one of the prestigious universities in the Europe which is also reputed in the world. According to my first semester study at university of Mannheim, it is really pleasant and welcoming. The program which I am studying is really a rigorous and competitive. I am having three courses in this semester-Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics and Advance econometrics. All the three courses are the building block of economics where I have learned lot of theories and research methodology in my first semester. Moreover, the students in this cohort are really ambitious and top class which also gives me enough enthusiasm to learn more in the standard study environment. One of the most impressive things is the library of the castle and high tech oriented campus life. The professors are mind blowing and I believe they have clear idea and concepts what they are teaching in the class. Besides that I had a great experience of the social life in Germany. Specially, when I was sick in the last month because of stomach pain, I was admitted in the hospital where I think I receive the best treatment in Mannheim. The people in the hospital were very friendly and supportive. Although I am not good at German, I did not have any problem.
Just let me explain how thing went for me when I did not get accommodation in the first week of my arrival in Mannheim. After arriving here in Mannheim, I did not able to manage the accommodation. I was with a German converted Muslim man. I was really in a quandary situation without getting the accommodation. After a while, when I received the shared room contact of Ekkehard foundation from international office, I was quite relieved from stress and tension. I would like to thank Miss Emily Velasco and Miss Lisa Marie Linder as well as officers of guest house for their cooperation. I also like to thank Mr. and Mrs Ekkehard for their support. We had a really wonderful meeting at the Italian restaurant where we share our culture and tradition.
When I received the house scholarship and scholarship from financial needs from university of Mannheim, it gives me a great advantage in building my smooth study environment at Mannheim. I am able to give full attention and efforts to my study. I am thankful to Mannheim to take me as a part of the master’s program here. I believe the outstanding program would
give me a great advantage to build a bright and promising future career as a researcher.
Thanking you,
Md najmul Ali
