Mein Jahr in Mannheim war mehr als ein Studium, es war eine Lebenserfahrung.

Dear Ekkehard Foundation,
Thank you for your kindly support, so that I am able to stay in the Guesthouse of Mannheim during my first semester in Mannheim. I enjoy my stay here and am able to concentrate on my study without worries.
I am studying in the Master of Data Science (MMDS), which is a new program from the University of Mannheim. This is a new area for me since I studied Quantitative Finance in my bachelor. However, I am satisfied with my studies. Many courses are more or less concerned about the challenges from reality; therefore, we not only need to focus on the theories but also need to think of the reasonable solutions. I got not only academic knowledge, but also practical experience. Besides, there are many opportunities to work on team projects and I am able to cooperate with people around the word. This semester, I’ve finished two team projects. One is about the prediction of the used car price by using different classification models. The other one is about cross-lingual semantic retrieval system. With a given query in one language, the system as a search engine can retrieve the relevant documents in other languages with semantic meaning. Though all the subjects were new for me, I still kept working hard on them and made myself a huge progress and improvement.
Next semester, besides my study, I will apply for a working student to push myself forwards on dealing with the real-world problems. I hope I can contribute my knowledge and also gain more experience.
I appreciate to have this place to stay, which is a precious gift for me. In the future, I hope that this chance can be given to more new coming students. They will for sure enjoy it.
Sincerely,
Chia-Chien, Hung
